Here’s the skinny on salt: It’s gotten a bad rap over the years, but the thing is, salt is actually healthy if you use the right kind. The average American consumes the unhealthy kind of salt, which is refined and stripped of all the minerals that make it healthy.

Pink Himalayan sea salt, which comes from the Himalayan Mountains, contains 84 trace minerals needed by the body for optimal functioning! If you are still skeptical about salt, check out this link for more research articles from Harvard and others. There are other healthy salts too, like Celtic sea salt and black lava salt.

Who knew that salt could be so posh?

Here’s why you need to start adding more healthy salt into your life:

Hydration

Instead of electrolyte drinks typically filled with sugar and food coloring, you can save money and get instant hydration from the natural electrolytes found in salt — chloride and sodium.

Digestion

Most of us can use a little extra digestive support, and salt is a simple and affordable way to effectively break down food. It activates enzymes that help digest protein and carbohydrates, and stimulates hydrochloric acid, which is crucial for digestion.

Weight Loss

Salt is a wonderful addition to your diet and can actually support weight loss! It can boost your metabolism, aid digestion (which also supports weight loss), and even curb your appetite. Of course, diet, exercise, and regular self-care practices such as meditation are also important.

Salt is also naturally antifungal and antibacterial. Given the current state of our world, we could all use some immune-boosting, antibacterial action.

Here are 3 insanely simple tips for adding more (healthy) salt into your life.

Here are 3 insanely simple tips for adding more (healthy) salt into your life:

Salt Bath: Not only is a relaxing bath with candles and music incredibly good for the soul, but it’s also beneficial for your health if you add Himalayan or Celtic salt. Adding baking soda (especially for women) can prevent UTIs and keep your pH levels balanced.

Here’s a salty blend to try:

  • 1 cup Epsom salt (provides a good dose of magnesium)
  • ½ cup Himalayan or Celtic salt
  • 3 tbsp baking soda
  • Essential oil (of your choice)
  • Dried flowers (optional)

Sole Water (pronounced so-lay): Now, let’s talk about this fancy drink called Sole. The Latin origin of the word ‘sol’ means sun, which of course, we cannot live without. Essentially, Sole water is a highly concentrated salt drink that provides a high dose of the health benefits of healthy salt. Think of it as your morning vitamins!

To make it, grab a mason jar and mix about ¼ cup Himalayan salt with water filled to the top of the jar. Let it soak overnight until the salt is absorbed into the water (there should be a little salt left on the bottom of the jar). Voilà! Your salt magic is ready for consumption.

Add 1 tsp of your Sole mixture to a full glass of regular (non-salty) water and drink it first thing in the morning before consuming anything else. Repeat daily. Of course, with any health advice, please consult your doctor or a qualified health practitioner.

Salt Body Scrub: Last but not least, if you don’t have time for a bath, why not exfoliate and detox your body with a quick salt scrub? You could make a DIY blend or buy one. Here’s a DIY recipe to try.

  • 1.5 cups Himalayan salt
  • 8 TBSP Oil of choice (grapeseed or almond oil work well)
  • 15 drops of your favorite Essential Oil

Who knew that such a simple and affordable mineral like salt could offer such enriching health benefits?!

Come join the salt train!
